September Meeting Update

September 15, 2010

We had a great September meeting.  We learned about beading from Debbie Austin from the Glass Onion Bead Company in Appleton.  Thank you Debbie for sharing your beading experience.

In October we are taking a bus trip to Cedarburg.  The bus will leave at the park and ride off of the GV exit at 8:30 am.  We will return about 8:00 pm.  You will be on your own for meals.

The next meet is October 12, 2010.  Two of guild members, a mother / daughter team, will share with us their talents.  It’s sure to be a great meeting.  Be sure to join us.  We will also be voting for our new board members.

We also need volunteers to organize the December meeting.  Contact Mary Pat if you can help.

Happy Quilting…

Did you ever wonder what your treasured quilts are worth? Need a quilt appraised?

    January 29, 2010

Carol Butzke, ACS Certified Appraiser of Quilted Textiles, will join us at Evergreen Quilters Guild; 14th Biennial Quilt Show to appraise our quilts.

A sign-up sheet will be available at our February and March guild meetings to schedule an appraisal.  Space is limited so please sign up early.

Carol is certified by the American Quilter’s Society as a textile appraiser, is one of four instructors for the American Quilter’s Society’s Certification Program, a member of the Certification Board and a member of PAAQT, the Professional Association of Appraisers—Quilted Textiles. She has completed the extensive testing and instructional courses on Insurance, Fair Market and Donation appraisals taught by the American Quilters Society. She has attended and continues to attend classes and lectures pertaining to appraising, conservation, preservation and dating of textiles.

She is also a National Quilting Association Certified Judge, teacher, lecturer, quilt maker and quilt collector.  Her quilts have won numerous awards and have been published in many books and magazines.  She has served on the Board of Directors of the National Quilting Association, Wisconsin Quilters, Inc. and the Wisconsin Quilt History Project.  She was also as a panelist for the Twentieth Century’s Best American Quilts which was exhibited at the Houston Quilt Festival.  She has served as Show Judging Coordinator for NQA’s national shows in Tulsa, OK and Charlotte, NC and is currently on the NQA faculty teaching Quilt Judging Seminar, which is a two-day course to familiarize candidates with the judging process.

    Why appraise?

Many quilt makers and collectors ask, “Why should I have my quilts appraised?”  It is an important question to consider and it is answered with the following:

    • To establish a replacement value for insurance purposes before a loss such as fire, flood, damage or disappearance occurs
    • To meet your insurance company’s requirements for a “Fine Arts Floater”
    • To be assured that your quilt has adequate insurance coverage while at a textile competition or exhibit.
    • To provide a written record for your family.
    • To determine fair market value for sale of quilt.
    • To determine value for donation, gift or estate purposes (as required by the IRS).

If you have questions about scheduling an appraisal appointment or if you are interested in volunteering to assist with appraisals during the Quilt Show, please contact Kathy Bruckner. Phone, 362-9605 or by e-mail, lbruckner@new.rr.com
